York Medical Group is a large multi-sited long established Practice.
There are 16,500 patients, with a wide geographic and social spread, from across York. The main training surgeries are at Acomb (pictured above) and Woodthorpe, both on the west side of the City and with easy and convenient access to York ring road.
There are seven Partners (two female and five male; six full time and one ¾ time), with four Associates.
Two the Partners are trainers – Mark Roman (who has been training since 1998) and Paula Evans (who has been training since 2003).
There are four sites across York:
Two on the west side:
- Acomb Medical Practice, based in a purpose built surgery which houses all the administrative staff and offices for the attached District Nurses.
- Woodthorpe Medical Practice, which is a newly built surgery.
Two city centre sites:
- Monkgate Medical Practice, sharing the same site as Family Planning and other services at this Health Centre.
- Campus Medical Practice, located in the grounds of the University of York St John, providing medical services to the students.
SystmOne is the practice clinical computer system, which is Windows-based and easy to learn. There is a YMG intranet which is used extensively, to supplement the weekly educational meetings. GP Specialist Trainees are encouraged to contribute to the development of the Practice by presenting their work on particular interest areas, as well as audit and significant events analysis.
The Practice is significantly involved in teaching at all levels, with HYMS years 2 and 4 as well as Foundation Year 2 Doctors. This generates a lively educational atmosphere. There are regular Practice social events to which all staff are invited.
Out of hours on call arrangements are through the service based at York Hospital, with two of the Partners able to act as clinical supervisors.
Trainees are encouraged to become fully involved in the practice.
