MyHealth has a list size of 18,206 with 11 partners. It covers a large area of approximately 200 square miles to the north and east of York. It encompasses the suburban areas of Huntington and New Earswick, numerous large commuter villages such as Strensall, Haxby and Dunnington, as well as a rural centre in Stamford Bridge and numerous small settlements such as Sheriff Hutton and Sutton on the Forest.
MyHealth, which was known as Strensall Medical Practice until 2012, evolved from a small single-handed Practice in the 1930’s to an 11 partnered Practice today.
There are four surgeries. The main surgery is in Strensall, and was completely rebuilt in 2000, with branch surgeries in Stamford Bridge, Huntington and Dunnington. All sites are part-dispensing to a total of 4,000 patients. Surgeries are open every weekday morning and afternoon, apart from Dunnington and Huntington which close on Tuesday/Friday and Thursday afternoons respectively.
The Practice has been training since 2003 and has two enthusiastic trainers, Dr Lesley Welch and Dr Chris Hirst. GPSTrs may work at either Huntington and Strensall or Stamford Bridge and Strensall.
The Practice is a major site for the teaching of medical students from the Hull York Medical School (HYMS). Drs Russell Saxby, Alison Travis, Fran Matthews, Helen Chidlow, Pete Frost and Fran Adams are involved in this activity.
The doctors work closely with other PHCT members and there is on-site NHS Podiatry, Speech Therapy and Physiotherapy at various surgeries. We have our own HCAs, taking on our phlebotomy work and some of the doctors lead their own Minor Surgery and IUCD clinics.
The Practice also has its own ‘Walk in Clinic’ – operating Monday to Friday mornings from Strensall Health Care Centre. This is led by our Advanced Nurse Practitioner but also includes Doctor and Practice Nurse input. As part of their extended roles, our Practice Nurses also lead Minor Illness clinics at Stamford Bridge and are all independent nurse prescribers. Alongside Doctor home visits, MyHealth also has its own Care Community Coordinator, helping care for some of our most vulnerable house bound and nursing home patients.
The practice has essentially been paperless since 2001 and relies entirely on the computer for recording consultations. The Practice uses EMIS Web clinical software and we are linked to the Health Authority for registration and IOS, and to York Hospital for pathology results.
All incoming correspondence is scanned on arrival and stored and work-flowed using the Docman document management system. Our appointment system is EMIS Appointments.
The practice is forward thinking, with a friendly and enthusiastic team. As a large Practice it is able to offer a wide variety of General Practice experience.
