Strensall Medical Practice has a list size of 17,263 with 12 partners. It covers a large area of approximately 200 square miles to the north and east of York. It encompasses the suburban areas of Huntington and New Earswick, numerous large commuter villages such as Strensall, Haxby and Dunnington, as well as a rural centre in Stamford Bridge and numerous small rural settlements such as those at Sheriff Hutton and Sutton on the Forest.
The Strensall Medical Practice evolved from a small single-handed Practice in the 1930’s to a 12 partners Practice today.
There are four surgeries. The main surgery is in Strensall and was completely rebuilt in 2000, with branch surgeries in Stamford Bridge, Huntington and Dunnington. All sites are part-dispensing to a total of 3,500 patients. All surgeries are open every weekday morning and afternoon, apart from Dunnington.
The Practice has been training since 2003 and has two enthusiastic trainers, Lesley Welch and Chris Hirst. GPSTrs may work at either Huntington and Strensall or Stamford Bridge and Strensall.
The Practice is a major site for the teaching of medical students from the new Hull York Medical School. Mark Stenton, Russell Saxby, Fran Adams, Fran Atang, Graham Gibson and Alison Travis are also involved in this activity.
The doctors work closely with other PHCT members and there is on-site NHS Podiatry, Speech Therapy and Physiotherapy at various surgeries. We have our own phlebotomists, Minor Surgery and other clinics.
The practice has essentially been paperless since 2001 and relies entirely on the computer for recording consultations. The Practice uses the windows-based Torex Synergy clinical software and we are linked to the Health Authority for registration and IOS, and to York Hospital for pathology results.
All incoming correspondence is scanned on arrival and stored and work-flowed using the Docman document management system. Our appointment system is Frontdesk for Windows.
The practice is forward thinking, with a friendly and enthusiastic team. As a large Practice it is able to offer a wide variety of General Practice experience.
