Scott Road Medical Centre is situated in a purpose built medical centre, close to the centre of Selby, approximately 14 miles South of York. We have a practice population of 10,700 and our practice area covers Selby, as well as outlying villages of Cawood, Wistow and Osgodby to the North, Thorpe Willoughby to the West, and Burn and Carlton to the South. Our socially diverse practice population is a mix of urban and rural patients.
Our clinical team is a dynamic, forward thinking group of six partners, four salaried doctors, three nurse practitioners and three practice nurses. We offer a full range of contraceptive services as well as minor surgery and joint injections and we work very closely with our local Health Visitors, Midwives, District Nurses and Palliative Care Team. The practice is part of the SHIELD federation, the South Locality and has partner representation at the board level of the CCG. The practice is also actively involved in research through the SHIELD federation research cluster.
There is a strong educational ethos in the practice and we are involved in teaching of third and fifth year medical students from the Hull and York Medical School. The learning environment is encouraged through quarterly learning events held in the practice, which are a combination of in-house teaching and invited external speakers. We also hold regular practice meetings, significant event analysis meetings, new cancer diagnosis meetings, and palliative care meetings, all of which the registrar is encouraged to attend.
At Scott Road medical centre, we aim to offer our registrars a well-rounded, organised and well supported foundation to a career in general practice.
