This large group practice of 12 partners, 3 associate partners and 9 salaried doctors serves a population of 40,000 patients. The partners work from six separate premises all over urban York. There are 5 Trainers – Peter Anderson, Richard Thompson, Shona Gilleghan, Kathy Bill and Vicky Middleton, each at a different site.
A trainee at PMG has the additional benefit of other trainees being based within the practice for support and joint educational activities. PMG has recently undergone extensive building work to improve resources for its trainees including a new training suite and videoing equipment.
Whilst at Priory the trainee is based at one site, but as patients can attend any surgery this allows an opportunity to experience the diverse patient population of York. This is a busy practice, but the large number of experienced GPs and nurses offers a wide range of services and provide plenty of opportunity for the trainee to acquire new skills! There are also Primary Care clinics at a local prison, boarding school and psychiatric hospital allowing experience of a different side of General Practice.

Name: » Peter Anderson
Peter Anderson is an experienced trainer and Educational Supervisor. He has particular interests in mental health ( Section 12 approved ) ,acupuncture and supervises FY2 doctors in the practice. Peter is easily recognizable by his unorthodox modes of transport – he either comes to work in a large VW panel van filled with windsurfing kit or on a motorbike !
Cornlands Road is the administrative centre of the Priory Medical Group where 2 other partners also work Sadia Muhammed one of the Management Leads for the Priory Medical Group and Robert Fisher who also sits on the Local Medical Committee (NYLMC).

Name: » Vicky Middleton
The Heworth Green branch is where the next largest premises are within the Group, Vicky Middleton is the trainer based here. The Heworth Green Surgery is based in an older building that has recently been modernized and extended. As well as a GP surgery it has also been a nunnery! It is within walking distance of the city centre and covers a diverse population in York. There are two other partners working there - Jonathan Lloyd, currently one of the Training Programme Directors and Associate Clinical Dean for Students for Hull York Medical School, and Stephen Billsborough who is also a Clinical Placement Tutor for HYMS. The GP Registrar would have exclusive use of their own consulting room and join in the care of 8000 patients who attend that surgery.

Name: » Richard Thompson
The Rawcliffe branch is where the GP Registrar will send most of his time with Richard Thompson, who is also a GPSI Dermatology. There is one other partner working there. Joan Meakins, who is the practice lead for Practice Based Commissioning.

Name: » Shona Gilleghan
The third branch surgery to take a GP Registrar is the Fulford Surgery, where Shona Gilleghan is the trainer, She works part-time in the practice and she is also a PBL Tutor at HYMS. Training will be supported also by the other partner on site, Andy Dent, who also works at HYMS in the same role. Shona is often to be seen around Fulford in a bright yellow jacket on her bicycle. Fulford surgery is also a base for HYMS clinical placement teaching.

The fourth branch surgery is has a large teaching / meeting room. One other partner Lesley Godfrey is also based there and she is one of the Management Leads for the Priory Medical Group, Trevor Julian is the other partner based here.
The Practice offers a full range of services to its patients and employs a number of Practice Nurses and Counsellors. In addition the practice is a teaching practice for HYMS taking students in years 1, 2 and 3 of the course and is also a Foundation Programme teaching practice taking FY2 doctors.
The practice is also involved in running the Priory Pharmacy adjacent to the Cornlands Road surgery.The practice operates a specialist Travel Clinic and provides primary medical care services to HMP Askham Grange, Queen Ethelburga’s School and Stockton Hall Hospital a secure psychiatric unit.
