St Leonard’s Hospice is a purpose-built 20-bedded in-patient unit with Day Hospice facilities providing Specialist Palliative Care and End of Life Care. The medical team at the Hospice consists of one Consultant in Palliative Medicine, three part-time Hospice Practitioners and a Specialist Registrar in Palliative Medicine.
An holistic approach to care is offered and patients are admitted for symptom control, terminal care, rehabilitation and respite care. The GP STr will be a valuable member of the multi-professional hospice team.
The Hospice is based at Dringhouses in York but has close links with York Hospital. There are opportunities to spend a day with the community MacMillan nurses, Hospice@Home team and/or the hospital palliative care team.
There is one tutorial a week and opportunity for informal learning. At the end of six months the GP STr will be confident in the management of patients requiring symptom control and also in providing care at the end of life.
The post also has a 1 in 6 non-resident on-call commitment.
