Post Details:
This is a semi-rural dispensing practice serving a population of 8500 patients within a 7 mile radius of the central Market Weighton surgery. There are eight doctors (5.4 FTE) and we operate from a single site in the centre of this pleasant market town, east of York. There is a full team of excellent staff working closely with the Primary Health Care team from the same site. In addition to usual GP services, there are several monthly consultant led clinics, covering specialities such as Orthopaedics, General Surgery, ENT, Paediatrics, Gynaecology and Dermatology. The practice offers GMS services to the residents of a local 84 bedded unit who have learning disabilities and challenging behaviour, and visit the unit up to twice a week (according to demand) to run surgeries. There is full computerisation using SystmOne.
- The practice has been training GPs for several years.
- There are strong links with HYMS with both 4th and 5th year medical students having regular attachments during the academic year.
- There are plans that, within the foreseeable future, the practice will move to a new purpose built Health and Social Care Centre within Market Weighton. This would offer many more facilities, including Day Care Surgery, Social Services, specialist nurse clinics, Chiropody, CAB, and Macmillan Palliative Care.
- BRIDGET WILKINSON Bsc (St Andrews) MBChB (Manchester) DRCOG MRCGP joined the practice in the autumn of 1994 and has worked here every since. Previously she worked with the Medical Protection Society, looking at risk management (and limitation) and the importance of good communication skills.
- Her personal interests include family (three children and the teenage challenges they bring), friends, good food and travel.
