Post Details:

This is a semi-rural dispensing practice based at Escrick surgery with approx 6100 patients, who live in one of the 14 villages within an 8 mile radius of Escrick. As local public transport is poor there are three branch surgeries at North Duffield, Wheldrake & Naburn.

The practice area covers a wide area from Fulford on the edge of York to Barlby near Selby to the South, and our west & east boundaries are the river Ouse & the river Derwent respectively, with some patients in Bubwith.
There is a higher than average elderly population both in their own homes & in local residential & nursing homes. Patients can be admitted to Selby Hospital GP ward for rehabilitation, respite, palliative care or assessment, where acute facilities of York hospital are not required.

Medical care is provided to Queen Margarets girls boarding School at Escrick during term-time.

In addition to general medical services the partners specialise in the following:

  • Dr Lenthall undertakes minor surgery, joint injections, 8 week baby checks & teaches year 2 HYMS students.
  • Dr Hanna does joint injections, contraceptive implants & teaches HYMS students year 1.
  • Dr Hanly teaches HYMS year 2 students.
  • Dr Butlin has been a GP trainer since 1999. She is also the school medical officer for Queen Margaret’s School, 8 week baby checks & undertakes coil & cap fittings for the practice.

Other practice clinical staff include 2 experienced practice nurses who between them provide specialist monitoring of chronic conditions eg asthma/copd, type 2 diabetes, IHD/stroke, hypertension, AF as well as smear taking, dressings, wound care & holiday immunisations

They are assisted by 2 part-time health care assistants who undertake blood tests, check bp’s, ecg’s, & new patient health checks.

The practice works closely with attached staff, which includes the District Nursing team, currently shared with another Selby practice, midwifes from the Selby team, practice counsellor, primary mental health worker, Macmillan nurse and Health visitors.

  • The practice uses the EMIS clinical software for patient records .
  • Out of hours care is provided by TENYAS, with local sites at Selby & York hospitals.
  • Medication is dispensed at the practice to all patients who live more than a mile from a chemist.
  • Support is from our excellent reception/admin & dispensing team led by our practice manager.
