Post Details:
The post is based in the Emergency Department of York District Hospital, which sees over 80,000 new attendances a year (of which approximately 25% are paediatric). There are currently 7 ST posts of which 5 are on the GPVTS scheme, in addition to 3 FY2 and 3 FY1 posts. The posts are recognised for ACCS and GP training. Trainees will be responsible for the initial assessment and management of patients across the full spectrum of emergency medicine ranging from minor injuries to resuscitation cases.
There is full time middle grade cover to the department consisting of 4 higher specialist trainee posts posts and 4 Staff Grade posts. There is 15 hour shop floor consultant presence with the overnight period covered by an on-call consultant. The department also employs 2 portfolio GPs who have completed training and work in local practices while maintaining a day per week in emergency medicine.
The department has an active postgraduate teaching programme with weekly protected time for junior doctor teaching every Thursday afternoon. Trainees will also be released to attend local GPVTS teaching and other study leave courses as required.
