The scheme was founded in 1971 and has grown steadily since then. It is based around the Postgraduate Medical Centre of the York Hospital, and the hospital jobs are either at the York Hospital, or, in the case of Psychiatry, at the adjacent Bootham Park Hospital. » Abbey Medical Group
The practice is located near the city centre of York and has a population of 11,500 patients, with relatively few in socio-economic groups II and I. The list always includes a number of children on the 'at risk' register, travellers, and families with multiple social problems, university students and staff. All seven partners are involved in training. The practice teaches medical students from HYMS years 2, 3 and 5.

» Beech Tree Surgery, Selby
Award-winning, purpose-built premises completed in January 1993 form the centre of the Practice, with two dispensing Branch Surgeries, at the villages of Carlton and Riccall.The total Practice area covered is more than 120 square miles, with a population of 15,000 patients for 8 Partners and salaried doctors; a total of around 10 whole time equivalent doctors in 2010.

» Clifton Medical Practice
The practice works from Clifton Health Centre which is owned by the York Trust, and is conveniently situated only five minutes from the York District Hospital. It was one of the two founding practices of the York GP Vocational Training Scheme, in 1972.
