GP Retention Scheme
Background
Formally “Retainer Scheme”
Revamped in 2016
Aim to retain GPs who might otherwise be lost to the workforce
Work
1-4 sessions a week
1 session = 4 hrs and 10 mins
Can do OOH but no other GP work “in hours”
Can do other non – GP work e.g. family planning, teaching
5 year max would be the norm
Benefits
“Flexible” hours
Standard contract
Educational supervision – 2 hours a month
CPD time
Hopefully peer support via HEE
£1000 per session towards expenses and CPD
Practice
Must be a training practice or one approved by HEE
If not a training practice supervising GP will need to undertake educational supervisor training
£76.92 per session per week paid by HEE
