Minor Surgery course

Next Course : October 2012 dates TBC
This interactive course is run twice a year in the Postgraduate Medical Department at York Hospital by a team comprising two GPs who are actively involved in Minor Surgery, a consultant surgeon who trained fully as a GP on the York GP VTS in the past and a consultant dermatologist with a wealth of experience in Minor Surgery.

The interactive two day course, combines theoretical and practical sessions on excising pigmented lesions and cysts, toenail surgery and the different suturing techniques.  There are similar sessions on curettage and cautery and cryotheryapy.  The practical sessions use pigs’ trotters to give participants plenty of practical experience.  There are also latex work stations for those who wish to avoid using pigs’ trotters.

The final session concentrates on the theory of joint and soft tissue injections, with the opportunity to practise these skills on special latex models.

The course concentrates on beginners, but also allows those with basic minor surgery skills to concentrate on improving these, as well as learning new techniques involving skin flaps if wished.
