Mark Roman & Paula Evans –York Medical Group, Acomb, York

York Medical Group was formed in May 2002 by the amalgamation of two equal sized, long established Practices. Our aim, then as now, is to provide high standards of medical care in an innovative and dynamic way, viewing the many challenges ahead as opportunities for the Practice.

There are 15,000 patients, with a wide geographic and social spread, from across York. Our main training surgeries are at Acomb (pictured above) and Woodthorpe, both on the west side of the City and with easy and convenient access to York ring road.

We have nine Partners (four female and five male; six full time and three ¾ time), and one GP Retainer.

Two of our Partners are trainers – Mark Roman (who has been training since 1998) and Paula Evans (who has been training since 2003).

We have four sites across York:

Two on the west side:

· Acomb Medical Practice, based in a new building which houses all the administrative staff and offices for the attached primary care team (ie, District Nurses, Health Visitors and Midwives)

· Woodthorpe Medical Practice, located in a converted detached house

Two city centre sites:

· Monkgate Medical Practice, sharing the same site as North Yorkshire Emergency Doctors and the Walk In Centre

· Campus Medical Practice, located in the grounds of York St John College, providing medical services to the students

We use the EMIS clinical system, and all medical records are computerised. Notes are no longer routinely used in the consultations, but are easily available. There is access to the internet from all computers in the practice.

Out of hours on call arrangements are through the North Yorkshire Emergency Doctors rota based at the York primary care centre.

We encourage Registrars to become fully involved in the practice as well as encouraging study leave. We look forward to your contribution!
