John Coop   Dalton Terrace Surgery, York

The Dalton Terrace Surgery is close to York's racecourse and the Knavesmire, catering for 8,000 patients, with 18% living in villages to the South and West of the city. There are five full time partners – two female and three male.

The attractive premises consist of the ground floor and basement of a three-storey Victorian house, which has been updated to provide a full range of modern medical services, including Minor Surgery. There is a Baby Clinic once a week involving Practice Nurses and partners. There is plenty of opportunity to gain experience. There are several community homes for the chronic psychiatrically ill patients in the area. The Practice prescribes for some drug dependent patients in liaison with the Drug Resource Centre and so there is an opportunity to gain experience with these two different and difficult groups in a supportive atmosphere.

The Practice is also involved with HYMS teaching Years 1 and 4.

The Practice is fully computerised with the EMIS system and has a large number of ancillary staff. Regular audit is undertaken.

John Coop has been a Trainer since 1985, and prior to that the Practice was also one of the founding members of the York Vocational GP Training Scheme. The doctors have personalised lists and see their own patients as much as possible.

We have close liaison with all the Primary Health Care Team with frequent meetings – including the CPN’s, Midwife, Health Visitors and District Nurses.

We have Retinal Screening services on site.
