Priory Medical Group, York

This large group practice of 16 partners and seven salaried doctors serves a population of 35,000 patients. The partners work from six separate premises all over urban York.  There are three Trainers – Peter Anderson, Richard Thompson and Shona Gilleghan, each at a different site.

Peter Anderson, Heworth Green Surgery

The Heworth Green branch is where the GP Registrar will spend the majority of his/her time with Peter Anderson, who also helps run the local MRCGP preparation course. There are two other partners working there - Jonathan Lloyd, currently one of the Course Organisers and Locality Director of Clinical Studies for HYMS, with Lesley Godfrey. The GP Registrar would have exclusive use of their own consulting room and join in the care of 7,500 patients who attend that surgery.

Richard Thompson, Rawcliffe Surgery

The Rawcliffe branch is where the GP Registrar will send most of his time with Richard Thompson, who is also a GP Appraiser.  There are two other partners working there. Joan Meakins, who is the SYPCT Cancer lead and Patrick Kramer.

Shona Gilleghan, Fulford Surgery

The third branch surgery to take a GP Registrar is the Fulford Surgery, where Shona Gilleghan is the Trainer.  Here, there are three other partners, Andy Dent, Steve Billsborough and Kathy Bill.

The Practice offers a full range of services to its patients and employs a number of Practice Nurses and Counsellors. There is a British Airways Travel Clinic and the practice is involved in trials with the MRC, Pharmaceutical Companies and Leeds University Medical School.

 

A rapid evolution over the past nine years has resulted in all five premises being linked by the same computer system EMIS. The practice is effectively paperless using fully computerised records with desk top terminals in each consulting room. Regular administrative and clinical audit is performed, using computer-generated protocols.

 

The Practice was a founder member of the North Yorkshire Emergency Doctors' Co-operative and the GP Registrar's out of hours commitment will be approximately 1 in 10 weekdays and half a weekend in 5. Jonathan Lloyd is currently a Course Organiser and locality director of Clinical Studies for the Hull and York Medical School.  Sadia Mohammed is a Police Doctor.  The practice looks after Askham Richard Women’s Prison.  Surgeons. Lesley Godfrey is responsible for research and development within the practice, which also is involved in teaching medical students and nursing students.
